Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a program architect for a temporary position in our department for urban planning and sustainability. Your role as a program architect is to contribute to ensuring that the urban planning office remains at the forefront of sustainable, inclusive, and place-based urban development and architecture.

You will be part of a team alongside the city architect and the three other program architects in the urban planning office. The city architect team works cross-sectorally to drive issues related to quality in the built environment at the urban planning office, within the city of Malmö, and within the industry.

You are one of two program architects in the department for urban planning and sustainability. Together with the city architect team, you will inspire and support the department's various teams and external stakeholders to continuously improve the quality of the built environment.

In the role of program architect, you will lead the implementation of the urban planning office's flagship project, More Malmöite Architecture; a concretization of Malmö's architecture policy, Architect City Malmö, on how urban planning and construction projects can leverage and strengthen the uniqueness of Malmö and its various parts. Your position also includes supporting project managers in concrete planning projects.

Qualifications

The position of program architect involves extensive contact areas, which requires you to have good collaboration skills and a natural interest in building good relationships and creating networks. Since you and your colleagues are tasked with working on issues related to architecture and urban planning, you need to have the ability to shift between a strategic and operational perspective, be flexible, and comfortable working at different scales and throughout the urban planning process.

We see that you have good communication skills and use communication as a tool for influence and impact. We see that you are process-oriented, with experience in driving larger planning assignments and investigations. You have a structured and pedagogical approach that aids your communication. You are open to suggestions and ideas and have a solution-oriented attitude towards new conditions or changes that may arise along the way.

To be considered for the position, you must have:

  • a degree in architecture, master's 300 credits (architect, landscape architect, planning architect) or equivalent education deemed comparable by the employer
  • at least five years of work experience in the profession
  • experience in detailed planning and design programs
  • experience in driving larger planning assignments and investigations
  • experience in sustainable urban planning and architecture
  • good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.

It is also advantageous if you have:

  • knowledge of Office 365, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign
  • experience in design assignments
  • experience in comprehensive planning

The department for urban planning and sustainability, with its five units and about 70 employees, is one of the four departments of the urban planning office. Together with the residents of Malmö and the stakeholders in the urban planning process, the planning department is driving Malmö's development as an attractive and sustainable city, both by shaping new neighborhoods and transforming existing urban environments.

The urban planning office is an authority for planning, building, and land surveying issues. The administration works with comprehensive planning, detailed planning, property formation, building permits, measurement, and mapping. The urban planning office works for the residents of Malmö, various actors in the construction market, and others active in Malmö.
